TOMATOES, TOMATOES, TOMATOES

For those of you that are not familiar with northwestern Maine, our growing season is short.   We can have frost as late as the first week in June and as early as mid-September.

That being the case, it is mid-August now and we are just getting our first decent tomatoes and sweet corn.

I do love tomatoes: good tomatoes, not those tasteless, hot house red things they try to pass off as tomatoes in the supermarkets.

I will be gorging on tomatoes over the next four to six weeks.

  2. Due to wet weather induced blight, I shall have to buy tomatoes from the Mennonites down the road. My husband is especially sad. He looks forward to tomatoes right out of the garden. -Jenn
